EGH116   Theatre Practice: Making Texts   (20 credits)

Year Running: 2019/2020
Credit level: F4
Additional Information   Available only to students on the Single Honours English and Theatre and Single Honours Theatre and Peformance degree programmes.

Description

This module will investigate processes through which performances and performance texts may be created which are not derived from playscripts or texts previously written for performance. Working practically and in studio spaces as a member of a group, students will explore different approaches to devising performance¿, working with contrasting materials and from different starting points. Where possible, they will also witness examples of devised performance, and analyse these in relation to their own work and the contrasting methodologies encountered. Though some consideration may be given to the perspectives of designers, directors and others, students will engage with the work primarily as imaginative, inventive and creative deviser/performers. Working as a member of an ensemble, all students will contribute to the devising and preparation of a performance which will normally be publicly presented.
